#SoCS: Musings Over Aging and Long Big Toes

Aren’t the beautiful flowers of the field great? It’s spring in the northern hemisphere and I’m anxiously waiting to go flower shopping with biking buddy, planting, gardening, and seeing the fruits of our labor. But this isn’t what the post is about. I couldn’t find a pertinent lead photo on the internet for the topic at hand, so we just had a very time out. Have you seen the Marie Osmond commercial for a joint supplement to help with painRead more

#SoCS: The Express Lane

Remember when grocery stores had an express lane, for shoppers with 10-15 items or less, who wanted in and out in a quick hurry? Yeah, unless a shopper was behind THAT person with 30 items in his/her cart, who is either unable to count or doesn’t care about rules and store policy. With that in mind, I am going to attempt an express post, one with photos and not too many words. So you all can get in and outRead more

Life, Death, Resurrection

Life Bitterroot. Surprise Lilies. Two plants in nature that know resurrection. Both deliver leaves in early spring, then die back.  Dead as a doornail…or so it seems. Two or three months later, a stem of the bitterroot and surprise lily sprouts from the ground and pretty white, pink or purple flowers come to life. Resurrection of a sort. I suppose you can say that the plant never really died, it simply found new life after a long nap. Scientifically, bothRead more

#SoCS: From Where I Sit

From where I sit, I see a prompt, upon the kitchen table I make coffee caffeinated with milk and sugar maple Sitting in the dining room, I wonder if I am truly able To spark a memory from this place that isn’t writing fatal This room – a place for food, drink and gathering of friends For charcuterie boards at Christmas and choices that never end For birthdays shared by neighbors on one chosen weekend On Thursdays, a recurring lunchRead more

#SoCS: The Signals to Get Up and Do

Oh, the life of Gibbs, the cat. To sleep, to eat, to play, to visit the litterbox whenever he wants; to whine consistently for food; to lounge around on a dog bed that is not his, no matter that it smells like a dog. Gibbs doesn’t have to get up and do anything if he’d rather not. His life may not be as long as a human’s, but it’s a good and non-demanding life. Being retired, I could follow theRead more

In Between Life Anew

The chill of a season hangs on in breath While the earth underneath awaits its death There are calls of life anew underneath As chorus frogs wait in a shrubland heath A taste of spring willingly comes and goes Warm breezes, fresh unsoiled air wafts like prose Then winter returns from clouds filled with snow Gray skies appear in silver ink shadow In time, the month of earth’s change comes along Geese and crane return, noting robin’s song Too earlyRead more

The Sleeplessness of Whatever

Can anyone relate to eyes wide open at night? Having difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep? As a child, teenager, and adult before menopause and increasing age, I never had an issue with sleep. Earlier in life, I could fall asleep sitting up. I would fall asleep in the passenger seat of a car during nighttime drives with the then husband. I would sleep for 8-9 hours without ever waking up due to the condition of a bladder. And IRead more

#SoCS: Gotta Photograph, Picture of

“I don’t need your photographAll I’ve got is a photograph” Def Leppard’s 1973 hit song was about a woman, but it was the first sound bite that played in my head upon reading Linda Hill’s prompt for this week. I AM a child of 70’s and 80’s rock and roll, after all, so naturally… This post will not be about a song or specific person, but, rather, about sharing some of the thousands of photographs I’ve taken over the years,Read more

Kindness, Respect and Pervasive Division

What do you see as you walk down the boardwalk? Do you turn left, go straight or take a right into the woods? Does turning left or right, or staying in the middle, make you better or less than the next person to come through? Are we supposed to see life through the same lens or be the diverse and free-thinking people that started with two humans, a snake and an apple? In the story of Babel, the Holy TrinityRead more

#SoCS: My Smart “Cheeky Little Monkey”

Yeah, I know…today’s Stream of Consciousness prompt is not smart, cheeky, little or monkey. It is “WATCH,” as offered by the lovely Linda G. Hill. I’ll get to that soon enough. I’ve given Hoshi this very English moniker due to her naughtiness, but have determined she is also a very smart little shit. This is the ongoing story of keeping her out of the kitchen via a constructed fence wall. You would have seen this photo in my last post,Read more

#SoCS: A Close-Up to Winter and Cats

Cats are funny. Sometimes they want to be close up to their human while they attempt a yoga stretch, and sometimes they are a bit further away. In a box. At times there are snuggles and purrs from the furballs, at times one can drive a person crazy with their need-to-be/want-to-be in the kitchen addiction. Close up, the double fence wall seems formidable, but I’m waiting for Hoshi to find a way past it. The white fence was doing it’sRead more

#SoCS: For as Long as They Both Shall Live

Phhhfffttt!!! What’s the matter Gibbs? Hoshi. Uh-huh. She’s a twit. Uh-huh. Is that all you can say uh-huh? What would you like me to say, buddy? Say that you’re taking her back to wherever she came from. I can’t do that. Why not? Because like you, Mr. Gibbs, I adopted her. Yeah, so? So, I don’t take back kitties after I adopt them. No matter what. Can you make an exception? No. What is this about? She has been hereRead more
